You don't have to clear your mind to use your practice to become more mindful. Yoga practice is just that, practice. A place to practice being in all the ways you want to. In this workshop with Jos Morrish and Alexandra Birrell we explore ways in which to use the movement of yoga practice to facilitate a more soothing relationship between body and mind.
Jos Morrish- Physiotherapist and Yoga Instructor
Alexandra Birrell- Mindfulness Psychologist and Yoga Instructor
Change your relationship with your body into one of appreciation.
This workshop explores themes such as:
- using mindfulness to bring self compassion into our practice
- developing and maintaining motivation for a home practice
- self doubt, insecurity, the body's limitations and it's resilience
- working with injury in our yoga practice
- physiology and the body’s response to yoga
- inhabiting your body as a gloriously imperfect gift
Mindfulness can be a bit of a buzzword these days, but what does it really mean to be mindful, and more importantly, how can we create a habit out of mindfulness so that we reap the benefits in our ability to handle stress, in our relationships, with our health and in our careers?
These classes can be attended as an 8 week course but are also open to casual drop ins. Each class tackles a different topic or technique. Please bring paper and a pen :-)
108, 54 or just as many as you can do! This is a 45 minute continuous practice that allows you to flow along without the usual relentless instruction. You choose your own format of sun salute and take it where you like. We will have two guides at the front demonstrating variations for the whole class if you need any inspiration.
Bring a towel as this session is likely to get you heated up- don't fret though, we will have a 15 minute guided cool down at the end.
You can check out some sun salute variations on our Youtube page- linked to the pic.
Imagine the following scenario: you go to your local yoga studio, and drop all of your worries at the door. For that hour, you leave the stresses of daily life behind as you settle into the safe, peaceful space of the yoga class. For this hour, you are relaxed. Finally!
But as soon as you’re out of the studio door, you’re right back into your reactive headspace - stressed out, and perhaps, if you’re honest with yourself, not really acting in alignment with your own deep heart values. Maybe you yell at the kids, or your partner. Maybe you’re working in a career that you can’t stand. Perhaps you’re becoming aware of just how much your life is lived out of fear, instead of love. You know that mindfulness is important, but difficult thoughts and emotions seem to keep getting in the way.
In this 90 minute workshop, you will learn scientifically proven, habit forming mindfulness skills to bring deep meaning, purpose and clarity to your life. You'll learn to change your relationship to limiting beliefs, old stories, and negative habits, empowering you to step into a life that feels good to you, first and foremost.
Workshop starts at 17.30. Snacks and tea available from 17.15.
